CHATSWOOD Stud stallion Niello (Octagonal – Shadea by Straight Strike) earned his first two-year-old winner for the season when Sparks Burn (Niello – Dual Spark by Spartacus) won on debut on Friday at Bendigo.
Sparks Burn was Niellos third juvenile runner for the season but the Shane Fliedner-trained gelding showed plenty of natural ability to post a neck win. Sparks Burn maintained his dam Dual Sparks (Spartacus – Sparky Miss by Flash Of Steel) perfect breeding record by becoming her fourth winner from four to race.
Beginning quickly from the outside, Sparks Burn got caught three wide without cover. Ridden by Dan Nickolic, when he asked Sparks Burn to ‘let-down’ he did so quickly and held on for a tough win.
Although a narrow win, it had plenty of merit. Place-getters were General Offer (John Symons & Shelia Laxon) & The Juddernaut (Chris Hyland).
A drifter in betting, a pleasant $5 was on offer for punters.
Dual Spark is the dam of the 2008 Listed Lindsay Park Guineas (1600m) winner Sparks Fly.
