“This is her first attempt racing over 1400 metres but her racing pattern and breeding suggests it will be advantageous as her dam won the Morphettville Guineas over 1600 metres, ” Wingrove Park CEO Joseph Vella explained.
Flying Spark is the first foal from the dam Sparks Fly whose résumé also included a third placing in the Group 2 Edward Manifold Stakes and fifth placing in both Group 1 1000 Guineas and Schweppes Oaks.
The Shane Fliedner trained galloper hasn’t put a foot wrong in four outings and the stable is confident her consistency will continue on Saturday.
“All her races have been creditable and while she’s in good form the opportunity to earn black-type is very tempting,” said Vella.
Flying Spark was beaten in a photo finish on Bendigo Cup Day following on from a luckless fourth at Ballarat after her maiden win.
